Dr. Stanton earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Developmental Psychology in 1977 and a Master of Science degree in Child Development in 1979. Both degrees were granted by Eastern Washington University. After spending nearly 20 years as a school psychologist, Dr. Stanton completed a doctoral program in Counseling Psychology at the University of Idaho. He was licensed as a clinical psychologist in 1999.
Dr. Stanton has had a variety of professional experiences which have contributed to his role as the Director of Clinical Programming at Innercept. In addition to the assessment and placement duties of a school psychologist, Dr. Stanton coordinated the Gifted and Talented Program for the local school district. He also coordinated the Counselor and School Psychology Training Program for the University of Idaho’s Coeur d’Alene Center. Dr. Stanton spent one year providing contract therapy services to a nearby youth residential program. He has extensive experience providing therapy and testing services to psychiatrically hospitalized youth. Dr. Stanton has provided outpatient services to the local community for 14 years and continues to do so on a limited basis for former Innercept residents only.
Dr. Stanton has been affiliated with Innercept since it opened and assisted with the initial design of the program. Prior to becoming Clinical Director, Dr. Stanton provided direct therapy to residents and led the physical fitness portion of the Innercept Program. He now divides his time between delivering direct therapy and insuring that the quality of clinical services remains high for all residents and their families at Innercept.
